Chimps are believed to be the closest cousins to human beings and we have them in Budongo Forest, Kibale National Park, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Ngamba Island Chimpanzee sanctuary and Kyambura Gorge.
At Kable National Park, you can do Chimpanzee Habituation an activity which focuses on de-sensitizing chimpanzees to human presence while maintaining their natural behavior. During habituation process, one sees chimps getting-out of the nests between 5.30 am and 6.30 am and keeps follow-up to when building nests for their sleeping between 6.30 pm and 7.30 pm in the evening. Habituation starts from Kanyanchu River Camp.
When to do it
The best time to track chimpanzees is usually during the dry seasons, though some visitors may prefer an adventurous experience during the rainy seasons.
The rainy season is usually between March to May and October to mid-December. Dry seasons are usually from mid-December to February and June to August.
